In this stage of the design process we focused more on interior plan although some of facade aspects were changed too.

As far as the stairs are concern we want them to be the main furniture of the building. Wide made out of concrete with wooden finishing.

The building has three floors. Each of them has different function.
The 0 level is dedicated for the entrance with a small reception inside. On the -1 floor there is an exhibition area and the conference room and the lowest floor -2 hold the cafeteria.

During creating a staircase we came out with the idea to put a massive opening while coming down the stairs in order to provide the visitor with a view on the landscape.
But the one opening was not enough so we repeated the same module on the -1 level just in a bigger scale, which gave as an opportunity to locate a conference room there within 27 sitting places. In the meanwhile of presentation the window is covered by a suitable material for displaying projector sessions.
Exhibition area is working with a transparent wall dividing different spaces. By a transparent wall we mean wooden beams tightly placed so that they allow divide the space but in the same time they make the space more open and do not reduce it.

The lowest level include a coffee bar in the middle and single small tables around which continual outside the building as well.
On the -2 floor the inside and outside spaces are divides by a curtain wall with an opening working as a vertical shutter so the both spaces are strongly connected.
On the outside there is a square provided with a water spot to refer to the river.

When it comes to the building exterior the main changes which we applied is a facade material. Black irregular panels were replaced by a rectangular black slate.

Main features

In order to obtain some kind of square in front of the cafeteria area (closed and private inside outside) we slightly lowered the -2 level which was the influence of Marcel’s Breuer Whitney Museum.

Incorporation of the building has more than one meaning and function. Firstly our aim was to create an area designed for the temporary exposition deprived of natural sunlight concerning safety of the exhibited pieces of art. Secondly we really wanted to preserve the row of trees in front of the building, what also guide as to cut off the peaked elevation ending because at first it was reaching the trees.

Lightning is based on gradation which visitor will feel during exploring the museum. Starting with the dark space as an entrance - 0 level (the level of the Ingres Museum entrance) subsequently the interior is getting brighter while entering -1 floor created by scattered window openings in shape of rectangles imitating the brick used in the layout of cities buildings as well as creating a delicate shadow effect inside. Eventually almost totally lightened space in the -2 level where the cafeteria will be placed.

Stairs will be presented as the main character of the building. They are the entrance of the building. This kind of access to museum is applied in one of the tangential entrance into Louvre Museum, which is narrow corridor and then going down the stairs into huge open space.

During the design process we worked on one basic volume which was modified many times until we founded solutions for every doubt. Besides pulling the volume farther from the street we also lowered the roof to keep the view point on the 0 level.

Application of thick frame of the building emphasize it’s monumentality, vastness and heaviness.

(Outside the building) - We decided to repeat the staircase on the other side of the extension to provide the access and passage. Stair are wide enough to function as an urban furniture.
